Marlene's obituary

Marlene Lee Kay Erdmann, loving mother and grandmother, passed away peacefully on at Gilchrist Hospice in Baltimore City on September 6, 2019. Marlene was born in Lakewood, OH on March 29, 1936.

Marlene graduated from Ohio University in 1958 with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Special Education, and obtained a masters in audiology from the University of Maryland in College Park, MD and a second masters in special education from Bowie State University in Bowie, MD. Marlene taught special education in Prince George’s County Schools for over 3 decades; much of that time was at Glendale Elementary School.

Marlene dearly loved her four children, two sisters, her parents, and her many friends. She was a passionate and thoughtful gift-giver, an avid reader, and a constant traveler. She made it her lifelong passion to meet new people and immerse herself in new experiences as part of the fabric of her life. She had undeterred and constant courage and an intense curiosity that allowed her to touch many lives, both in the US and internationally. She served in the Peace Corps and embarked on numerous international mission trips as well as traveled for enjoyment.

Marlene is survived by: her sister, Joan; four beloved children: Chris (and his wife, Jennifer), Katy, Margaret (and her partner, Bill), and Thomas; and her many dear grandchildren: Katrina, Kara, Veronica, Halcion, David, Tenley, Jonathan, Joshua, Kathryn, Tyler, Hailey, Hannah, Josh, Meghan, Daniel, Lindsey, and Kayla.

A Celebration of Marlene’s Life will be held at New Hope Community Church, 200 Ingleside Avenue, Catonsville, MD 21228 on Sunday, October 13, 2019, at 6:30 pm, with a reception to follow at the church. Friends and family are welcome to attend. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the New Hope Community Church in Marlene’s name.
