Markus's obituary

Our beautiful boy Markus Anthony Green passed away unexpectedly on November 15th, 2022, at 31 years old. Born to Janell Doyle Shepherdson and Mark Jason Green on August 3rd, 1991. Markus was a calm and healthy baby weighing in at 10 lbs. Markus was such a joy. On the way home from the hospital, Mark immediately had a father's protective instinct and drove home slowly. As a young mother of 16, Janell wasn't skilled in motherhood. Markus' grandma Bobbi was always there to guide her in moments of panic. The first night at home on Charles Street, Markus wanted to sleep thru the night, and his doting Mother Janell and Grandma Bobbi kept checking to ensure he was breathing. Markus was always a good baby. As he grew, Markus was a frequent patient at Newberg hospital. Markus broke both arms, thankfully not at the same time. The first was falling off his bike, and the second was failing off the monkey bars at school. He also had a crush injury messing around on cousin Ray's farm, where he had a pipe fall on his arm, and thankfully they were able to save it, but he endured a significant couple of scars. Markus liked to tell friends at school funny stories of how it happened, including someone who broke into the house and cut him and that he had a new arm sewn on. Markus, the accident-prone child, always kept his family on their toes.

Markus desired to be a jokester, always involved in silly little shenanigans. Since elementary school, Markus developed entrepreneurial skills and worked hard to save his own money for things he loved. He immediately became obsessed with gaming, playing alongside his Dad, Uncle Matt, Uncle Luke, Grandpa Jerry, and Cousin Brian. Over the years, they would play Ultima Online, Runescape, Counterstrike, World of Warcraft, and PubG. Markus always riled everyone up to play a "friendly fire" game of Death Tank. Markus had a protective instinct for everyone he loved and cared for, including animals. He and Brian would skip school to go back to sleep and then game all day while their Nana intercepted calls from the school. She was their biggest supporter and partner in crime, always covering for them, so they didn't get into trouble.

Some of Markus' favorite interests and hobbies included listening to music and being a self-educated man with an admiral quality of integrity and honesty. He was an avid gun enthusiast and collector. His love for firearms grew from childhood due to his close relationship with a longtime family friend, Mark Atherton. He loved going 4-wheeling, camping, kayaking, hanging out with friends and family, and of course, gaming! As a child, Markus found a love for the outdoors on family camping trips led by his Grandpa Rick. Markus loved cats; Beeso was his first pet and lived to be his pride and joy from 2001 -2016. Markus handled Beeso like a piece of fragile glass, and Beeso loved his Markus. He also loved old classic cars and never desired a new vehicle. His first was an inexpensive $150.00 Ford Ranger from his Uncle Matt. Markus would wash it, clean the inside, and hang vanilla aroma trees in the window. Though, his Jeep was where he shared many fun and exciting adventures with many. Next, he purchased the notorious Datsun 240Z that he dreamed of restoring. To carry out this dream, his Uncle Denny has accepted the family's wishes to gift him the car. Denny says he plans to restore the vehicle with Markus' wishes in mind. In the future, Markus' mom can see it cruising down the road with Green Jelly license plates on either the Jeep or the Datsun.

Markus was perfectly content, living a minimalist lifestyle. He recently moved to Prineville, downsized to RV. Markus enjoyed living closer to his Uncle Denny. They would hang out in Uncle Denny's shop and discuss life, listen to music, work on cars, and drink a few beers. While traveling to his plumbing apprenticeship job in Washington three days a week, he was busy but lived life to the fullest.

Some of Markus' most important relationships in his life were with his cousins Brian and Jackie, who were more like his siblings. He was very close to Jackie as a child, and they loved spending time together, running around, hunting for frogs in the pond, and laughing. Throughout his formative years and into adulthood, Brian was by his side. Markus and Brian's bond was unbreakable. They were roommates, cousins, ride-or-die best friends, and, most importantly, brothers. Markus loved Brian and Jackie as his equal siblings. In addition to his cousins, Markus has two beloved sisters on his dad's side, Lizzy and Alex. They will undoubtedly have amazing silly stories about their brother to tell their children, Roman and Oliver. Alex and Lizzy love and will miss their brother dearly. Markus also had his stepsister Shayla, whom he remained close with after all these years.

His relationship with his Grandma Bobbi was very important to him. They were extremely close, and they cherished their relationship. Markus would do anything for his beloved grandma, as she loved him unconditionally. Bobbi was significant in raising Markus and helping his then young Mother care for him. She was a great role model and shaped Janell into the Mother Markus deserved. Luckily, Markus made parenting easy most of the time, and Janell always said they raised each other well.

Uncles Denny, Matt, and Luke had amazingly close relationships with Markus. Markus looked up to all of his Uncles. He cherished the fun and laughter they had together.

The loss of Markus was unexpected, and his friends and family are devastated by this loss. Markus had the sweetest, kindest, most loving, respectful, gentle soul with a great sense of humor. He possessed a rare and silly wit. Markus loved to make people laugh. He had much to share with us, whether it was his silly voices and accents or funny memes, videos, and exciting adventures. He was always a joy to be around. Everyone who met him loved him immediately. He will be forever missed. It is not easy to summarize the great man Markus was. Many family and friends have more stories to tell, and the family hopes to hear about them at his celebration of life event.

A true celebration of life is what Markus would have wanted, with family and friends smiling, laughing, and sharing stories of his life while eating good food and listening to his favorite tunes with a cold one.

Close friends and family will be invited to the woods on The Trask Mountain pre-fire season 2023 to spread some of his ashes in one of his favorite places, and as one of Markus requested before he passed, he would like us to blow some of his ashes up with Tannerite.

Markus is survived and remembered by his Mother, Janell, Father, Mark, and Step-Father Andrew. Cousins Brian and Jacklynn. Sisters Lizzy, Alex, and Shayla. Uncles Denny, Matt, and Luke. Aunts Jen and Shelly, and Grandparents Bobbi, Jeri, and Rick. He's preceded in death by his beloved Nana and cherished cat Beeso.
