I am so sad to hear this news. I knew Mark as an exceptional student and friend during his years at the IFA. He honored me by showing medals to the great collector of Old Master paintings and philanthropist Saul P. Steinberg and his wife Gayfryd whose collection I curated. I also remember his sartorial finesse and elegant demeanor. My sincere condolences to his loved ones.

When I think of Mark I smile. He was a unique person like no other. Charming, witty, and intelligent, he possessed a great love for art, history and beauty. I have happy memories of Mark telling funny stories, reading poems, tying 19th century British Navy sailing knots and knowing everything about James Bond and Moby Dick. I remember the warm sunny day we went to the Metropolitan Museum of Art. He talked for hours about the details and history of so many things. I met Mark through my dear friend Lisa Johnson. He was like family to me in a way because I had known him for so long. In recent years he had Thanksgiving dinner at my house in NYC. I am so grateful for the happy times we shared.

My deepest condolences to his family and friends. He was a very special person. May you find comfort knowing that he is at peace now in the loving embrace of the angels.

I was saddened to hear of Mark's passing. He was well-read, erudite, and thought deeply about things. He was an impeccable dresser. I was proud to have him as my Prom date. I have fond memories of that day as well as the summer of 1980, before college, when we shared hopes, dreams and plans for our futures. We were in contact a few more times in the ensuing decades and I enjoyed hearing about his escapades captaining a ship, his expertise in Renaissance bronzes, and his lovely daughters. He was a special person and I am glad that he led an adventure-filled life. I was sorry that we had lost touch in the past 20 years. My condolences to his family.

I will always remember Mark as a very bright and talented man. We met is class in 10th grade. We took the same sciences courses though we never shared any art classes together. He was always smiling and very nice. Everyone liked Mark. My deepest condolences to his family.

I went to high school with Mark. He, Chris Alberts and I would eat lunch together. He was always a very positive person with very insightful comments. He was a great friend.

Mark was a good friend to me in our senior year at Churchill high school, where I was an exchange student in 1980. He was an inspiring and original thinker - we swapped poems, drawings and dreams of creative lives in NYC. So good to read that he had that creative life he dreamed of. I remember dressing for the prom with the gorgeous Tanja Korr and Mark - and taking glam Andy Warhol style portraits .
I remember a wonderful dinner with Bartok and Shari in Pittsburgh - and visiting him in New York again in 1983 on another visit from Australia. But he dropped out of contact in the ‘90’s...
He was always interesting, elegant and esoteric. Farewell old friend xxx

I grew up with Mark and attended art classes with him when we were in elementary school. I was always in awe of his considerable talent. I used to care for his family’s pets when they were away on vacation. He was always an incredibly kind, intelligent and talented person. So sorry to hear of his passing. May he Rest In Peace.
I knew Mark through the art business and ran into him in a restaurant one night years ago when he was on his way to a movie theatre to see Jayce in “The Station Agent”. He invited me to go along, and we had a nice time. I am sorry to hear of his passing.

My condolences to Mark's family and to Barbara who I know was of great support to him when he no doubt needed it the most. I met Mark in 1996 when I first went to New York as a rookie in the world of dealing in sculpture. From then on he was always a feature in New York or London or whatever sculpture event or exhibition might be taking place. I would always visit him in his UES studiolo to try and find something or just see what treasures he had found. Mark was a singular character who always had a great story to tell. Truly passionate for his chosen field. A great shame he didn't fulfil his true potential that was so evident whenever you met him.

He could get into any party, and knew more about Renaissance Art than anyone I've ever met.
