Mark's obituary
Mark Sternberg, 58, of New Fairfield, Connecticut, a man who devoted his life to his family and friends, passed away unexpectedly on July 15, 2025. He was known by all for his boundless generosity and his readiness to always lend a helping hand.
Mark was born on November 4, 1966. His parents Heinz “Hank” and Rinda Sternberg knew that from the moment he was placed in their arms that he was the answer to their prayers. Mark grew up in Hastings-on-Hudson, where he developed a lifelong passion for sports, playing frisbee, running track, playing soccer, and ice hockey. His summers were spent on Hen Island in Rye, New York, a place he cherished deeply, where he loved to spend time with his family.
In 1990, Mark followed in his father's footsteps and proudly joined Millwright & Machinery Erectors Local Union 740 in New York where he worked with skill and dedication until his retirement in 2023. In 2013 Mark was elected to the Executive Board of Millwright Local Union 740 where he proudly served until 2024, first as the Warden and then as the Vice President.
On May 29, 1993, Mark married the love of his life, Joyce Manegio Sternberg, and together they raised three wonderful children. His commitment to service continued throughout his life. He sat on the board of Hen Island, always taking meticulous care of the island he loved.
Mark is survived by his mother, Rinda Sternberg of Seminole, Florida, and his wife, Joyce Sternberg of New Fairfield, Connecticut. He leaves behind his beloved children: son, Timothy Sternberg and his wife Kayla Sternberg; daughter, Hannah Sternberg; and daughter, Abigail Sternberg. He is also survived by a large family of cousins, nieces and nephews, aunts, uncles, and in-laws. Mark is preceded in death by his father, Hank Sternberg.
A Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, August 16th, at 11:00 am at the Prince of Peace Lutheran Church in Brookfield, Connecticut.
