Background
Mark's wife, Susan Liu, and her family have asked us to raise funds in memory of Mark. He helped almost everyone of us in one way or another, whether it be for a family member, a friend, or even ourselves in times of advice, support or need. He was selfless in his desire to make others well despite his own illness.
All of us have great memories of him as a friend, a coworker, a colleague, or just an acquaintance.
So, we are establishing a Mark Morrison Memorial Fund.
Unfortunately Mark was forced to go onto Medicaid near the end of his life to cover the enormous medical costs of his care. As many of you may know, Medicaid requires that essentially all family assets be exhausted prior to providing coverage. As a result, Susan may find herself in a very difficult situation attempting to settle remaining costs and debts now that Mark has passed.
As a result, we have agreed with Susan that she will determine any personal financial needs in about 6 months from now and the Mark Morrison Memorial Fund will address those needs first.
However, it is with great hope that she will not need the funds, or their entirely, in which case all proceeds of this fund will be donated to Memorial Sloan Kettering in Mark's name. In the meantime all funds are being held in a dedicated memorial fund bank account.
Anyone who donates to Mark's Memorial fund will be informed of the final decision about funds disbursement in the future (as long as you have provided your contact information).
PLEASE consider a donation, share your memories of Mark (please add comments from prior emails), and consider posting any pictures you may have.
