Mark Potter Mitchell, 72, passed from this fallen world into eternal glory on July 4, 2019.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Whitmark and Vera Potter Mitchell and by his beloved first grandchild, Matthew Wilson Mitchell.
He is survived by his daughter, Leslie Jones and her husband, Matthew Jones; five grandchildren, Hannah, Sarah, Luke, Abigail and David; and former wife turned friend, Debbie Williams.
Mark was born and raised in Portsmouth, Virginia. As a young man he proudly served in the U.S. Air Force. He had a passion for photography and worked as a photojournalist for the Virginian Pilot Newspaper for over thirty years. Mark was also an avid fly fisherman and enjoyed sneaking away to his favorite lakes and ponds whenever possible. Most of all he loved being a dad and absolutely adored being "Papa Mimi."
Burial will take place privately at Cedar Hill Cemetery. If you wish to celebrate Mark's life please donate to the American Sudden Infant Death Syndrome Institute in memory of his grandson, Matthew Wilson Mitchell.
