Mark was a huge part of my life, growing up as a gay man in Israel. Too many stories to write here. I will always carry him in my heart. He was the greatest man in the world. A force of nature. My deepest condolences to you all and a big hug from Tel Aviv.
Mark--too soon. You were one of the first people in ACT UP I got to know. You were always smart, strong and good-hearted. And FIERCE. You will always be in my heart as someone I looked up to for all you contributed in the fight against AIDS, for the health of people and community. It was an honor and joy to know you and to work with you and stand at your side. If there is anything after we shuffle of this strange mortal coil, may it be for you something wonderful!

I will miss you for the rest of my days Mark. You and I had a special bond as we navigated the challenges of our lives. I remember the 3 a.m. calls back and forth my brother. I am unendingly grateful for the advice and encouragement you gave me. I love you brother. I know you fought and never gave up. And … know how very much you were loved by so many.
This obituary is an absolute treasure for a person who was an inspiration and gift to us all. Personally, Mark provided critical activist-related advice at a time when I needed it most: "courage." Thank you for sharing all these amazing details
I was so sorry to hear about Mark's passing.  As conductor of the chamber chorus Cantori New York, which Mark sang in for a number of years, I had the pleasure of offering him a number of solo opportunities, as both a singer and a speaker, in our concerts and recordings.  (Mark's speaking voice can be heard on Cantori's first commercial recording Echoes and Shadows.) I still remember Mark's audition, maybe 30 years ago.  The audition included a difficult, lengthy sight-reading exercise that gave Mark some trouble.  Then I played it for him on the piano and he sang it back in its entirety -- perfectly.  He had an exceptionally keen musical ear and memory, and I was glad to invite him to join the choir.  I'll never forget picking up the phone one Thursday and hearing Mark's voice.  He'd been arrested, and was giving me a heads-up that he'd have to miss that evening's rehearsal!  Truly one of a kind.  Rest in peace.

I was saddened when I heard the news of Mark's passing. In light of all he went through and accomplished during his lifetime- the world has lost a hero. I have lost a person that I was proud to call my friend! I can still recall when he was born! I was 5 years old - but I remember my Mom telling me that Maxine was home from the hospital with a new baby. Another boy! Who would have thought back then what a huge impact he would have, not only in his community, but globally. My condolences to all of you! He will be missed!

To you Phil, I share my sorrow over your brother's death, yet vast admiration for what he did in his life - so active, so fulfilling, so daring and apparently so effective - plus, a Star Trek fan - his life prospered!!!
