I met Mark in lamplighter camp at burning Man over 20 years ago. This was a good guy and I've kept touch with him over the years. Both that burning Man and when we are back in our world lives. I wondered why I hadn't heard from him recently and now I've discovered his passion. He is going to be missed by many. I am glad I could call him my friend.
Noah Count was one of a kind. He was a reliable volunteer and supporter of Burning Man's Community Events team, among others. He'd always show up at the office with gifts and supplies for crafting and support for the teams he worked with. There are many in the Burning Man organization who will miss his presence and support, not to mention his good humor, stories, and sense of community. Rest well, Noah Count!
I first met Mark, I knew his as Noah Count at Burning Man in 2005. At first I didn't really know what to make of him, he seemed like a bit of a curmudgeon but he worked his butt off. The beautiful thing about him was this curmudgeony facade was just that, a facade. Once you got to know him, you would discover he was funny in the most unique sort of way. He had a deep mighty laugh and always had a story. He talked a lot about his wonderful, unique and interesting discoveries he often got at quite a deal on at his local thrift store. You could always count on him to help out and be there for anyone in need. Every year I would smile when I drove into camp and saw his trusty van. I knew that he would be off working hard somewhere and either sharing some interesting story with an old friend or new or quite possibly making one of our newbies nervous. I think that was a beautiful thing about him from the outside, he seemed like a grumpy old man but he was anything but, he was who he was and those of us lucky enough to know him truly appreciated him for that. I know he will be deeply missed by many.

I met Mark at a Burningman Burnal Equinox Party 3 years ago. I’m the volunteer coordinator, and he arrived with his khaki pants, tools, and warm smile ready to do whatever was needed.

He went by Noah Count at burningman, and we shared our love of volunteering, and that we were from the same area (I grew up in Shingletown).

He always stayed at a special hostel, and one time after he volunteered for way more hours than he needed to, and stayed to enjoy the party and break it down, I drove him back to his hostel.

We just threw our annual Decompression party, and he didn’t respond to my invitation emails to volunteer, and I feared something had happened so I looked this up.

My heart hurts for this loss. He was such a sweet, warm, generous soul, and we will miss him greatly in the Burning Man community.

Mark was a long term member of the Shasta YMCA. Many current members remember him from classes he took at the Y. Personally, I used to see him often at the downtown Redding Farmers Market on Saturday mornings. He always was riding his bike when he came there.  I talked to him about his various train trips. I was very impressed by the number of trips he went on and the different locations he visited. I'm sure he made friends with other train riders. He was a friendly, intelligent man and I was very sorry to hear that Redding lost him.
