Mark's obituary

Mark Adrian Dienstag, 76, passed away on March 12, 2025, in Miami, Florida.

Born on December 8, 1948, Mark led a life rich with intellectual curiosity, adventure, and devotion to his family. He received his education at the Anglo-American International School of New York City before continuing his studies at Middlebury College. His passion for the law led him to the University of Miami School of Law, where he honed the skills that would define his career.

Mark was a dedicated attorney who approached his work with integrity and an unwavering commitment to his clients. He was not one to make decisions based on personal gain but rather on what was best for those he represented. His legal acumen even brought him before the U.S.  Supreme Court as well as the Florida Supreme Court on multiple occasions—a testament to his dedication and skill. Though he never sought recognition for his accomplishments, those who knew him admired his principled approach to the law and his steadfast advocacy.

Beyond his professional life, Mark found joy in nature and cherished time spent outdoors with family. He had a deep connection to Candlewood Lake, where he grew up, as well as Green Pond in Sherman, Connecticut. In later years, he found peace reading and enjoying time with loved ones on Twin Island Lake in Miami. An avid traveler and adventurer, he embarked on numerous fly-fishing and camping trips with his best friend Manuel Castro. Together they also explored the art of brewing—Mark particularly enjoyed making mead and crafting delicious meals to share with family and friends. His creativity extended beyond the kitchen; following in the footsteps of his mother Grace, he was a talented artist who had an eye for designing serene landscapes complete with carefully placed stones, plants, fountains, water features, and koi ponds.

In his early twenties, Mark served as a member of the Israeli Defense Forces—a period of his life that left a lasting impression on him (despite an unfortunate encounter with shrapnel). He held great respect for military service members and formed strong bonds with many U.S. military personnel over the years. His admiration for their dedication influenced two of his children to serve in the U.S. Air Force—a legacy of service that carried forward through generations.

Mark is survived by his loving wife, Ydania; his children Kristina, Marissa, Joseph, Allison, Raven, Jordan, and Benjamin; and his cherished grandchildren Gabriel, Johnathan, Aurora, Lucy, Zena, Kollyn, and Elora.

His memory will live on in the hearts of those who knew him—through the stories shared around a dinner table filled with one of his signature meals or in quiet moments spent by a lake’s edge.
