Marjorie's obituary
Re Marjorie Castleman, Celebration of Life
Marjorie Anne (Barr) Castleman, 70, of Franklin, TN, went with God on October 25th, held dear by her family and friends. Marjorie grew up in Columbia. At just thirteen, the MTSU Music Festival awarded her an A Rating in concerto; the same came from Tennessee Tech in Cookeville the year earlier. During High School, she won the Contest of Champions as a member of the Mid-state Clinic Band under the direction of Tommy Tucker. Marjorie was an organist for Riverside United Methodist Church and a lifelong member of and once a pianist for the First United Methodist Church. Marjorie attended the University of Alabama on a prized classical piano scholarship, majoring in music. Subsequently, she matriculated at Memphis State, where she focused on finance. Afterward, Marjorie worked as an administrative assistant for Merrill Lynch.
She loved dancing, Chopin, cooking, Tolstoy, the CRIMSON TIDE, and grandmothering. We will never forget her classy, intelligent humor, matriarchal dignity, and devotion to her daughter.
Marjorie was predeceased by her parents, Marjorie Orr and Hiram Marion Barr Jr. She is survived by her husband, Howard Moody Castleman Jr; her daughter, Clair; her son-in-law, Barton Allen; her granddaughter, Lola Clair Allen; her sister, Betsy; and her brothers, Gene and James.
Marjorie bade her adored ones join Pastor Charles Moore, Green Hills Community Church, and us to celebrate her life at Westhaven Residence Club in the Townsend Hall & Balcony on Wed., December 7th at 2:30 PM. In Marjorie’s honor, please donate to her favorite charity: https://ofsds.org/ (https://ofsds.org/)
Marjorie’s remains will rest with her parents at Rose Hill Cemetery in Columbia, Maury County, Tennessee.
