Marita's obituary

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the peaceful passing of Marita "Oma" Tahmoosh on April 20, 2024. Born to life on March 11, 1939, Marita lived a full, rich life characterized by kindness and perseverance.

Marita was born on March 11, 1939, to Konrad and Helena, in Krefeld, Germany. She lived in Germany, before coming to the United States on May 10, 1954, at the age of 15. Marita arrived in the U.S., alone, not speaking a word of English. She first settled in Haledon, NJ, then South Paterson, NJ. She learned English and attended Central High School in Paterson, NJ. Although she missed Germany, she adapted, made many dear friends, and went on to become a very independent woman, developing a career and supporting herself as a Surgical Technician, at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Paterson, NJ.

Marita was predeceased by her loving husband, John Tahmoosh, with whom she married at age 28. Their union brought them five remarkable children: John Tahmoosh, Susan Tahmoosh, Dena Tahmoosh-Skeffington, Christopher Tahmoosh, and Mark Tahmoosh.

Love for her family extended to her daughters-in-law, Nichole, and Kelly, who have always held a special place in her heart.

The legacy of Marita's kind spirit, passion for life, and love lives on through her grandchildren; Olivia Tahmoosh, Lauren Tahmoosh, Cara Tahmoosh, Noah Skeffington, Jamie Skeffington, Maggie Tahmoosh and Aidan Gill. With the passing of Oma, they have not only lost their grandmother but a cornerstone of their family.

Marita's impact extended beyond the confines of her family. Her generous heart and strong spirit will forever be remembered by all who had the privilege to be a part of her life. While we mourn her departure, we also celebrate the wonderful life she led, cherishing each memory we were fortunate enough to share with her.

Marita’s life was anchored in her family, and she enjoyed family gatherings where her children and grandchildren could come together. She loved having fun – parties, music, dancing, and the occasional shot of tequila. She genuinely enjoyed seeing others happy. She was generous to a fault. Most of all, she deeply loved her children, her grandchildren and everyone in her life.

Marita’s legacy will continue to resonate in the hearts and minds of those fortunate enough to have known her. Her kindness, sense of humor, generosity, and devotion to her family, friends and neighbors, will be forever cherished.
