Marion's obituary

When we think of Marion Kremer we think of pastel pinks and blues, thimbles, Werther's Originals, a giggle a bit like Winnie the Pooh, playing cards, chocolate cake with coffee frosting, and endless stacks of fabric. But beyond these things, we remember a feeling of overwhelming affection and safety.

Marion Madeline Rosa Kremer was born to Frances Franko & Joseph Garcia Rosa on March 24, 1933, in Hayward, CA. She was the first of 3 girls, and her mother passed away when she was very young, so her childhood was steered by her father whom she described as a true Portuguese man with a deep love for seafood and storytelling. When she was still a teenager, Marion moved into a good friend's home and next door there happened to be a handsome young man named Victor Kremer. Marion and Vic married in 1953 and soon after welcomed 3 beautiful children, Susan, Karen, and Victor.

Her life was marked by camping trips and quilt shows, long drives on Sundays, a stray cat named Muffin, lunatic children and grandchildren, and an ancient battered copy of the Book of Hoyle. She always had something on the calendar to look forward to while always being generous with her time. She had so many friends and was an active member of various ladies’ clubs: The Cut-Ups, The Rambling Roses, and The Trotters to name a few. When she wasn’t off gallivanting with the ladies or spending time with family, she would volunteer to hang quilts in the public library, spreading her love and talent around for all to enjoy.

She wasn’t just our grandma, she was The Grandma. The round, little, old lady you read about in storybooks. The one who always had a warm hug and a full cookie jar whenever you stopped by. She was picture perfect, even in her older years, with salt & pepper hair and a big smile. You could taste the love she baked into her pies, and hear the joy in her operatic yawns. She instilled a love for food in our family and created an army of cookie bakers and pie makers around the holidays. Heart and happiness were at the core of everything she did.

Marion Kremer had the courage to be a wonderful friend, a curious traveler, a skilled quilter, and a steadfast partner. She taught us the importance of washing your feet before bed when you are camping, and of picking your own fruit to make jam. She was warm and open and took great care of everything she touched across all of her roles as a Daughter, Sister, Wife, Mother, Grandmother, and friend. She passed from this world on Thursday, August 5th, and to say that she will be missed each and every day doesn’t come close.
