Marilyn's obituary
OBITUARY
Marilyn Elizabeth Welter
DECEMBER 5, 1946 – APRIL 6, 2024
Remember me when I am gone away,
Gone far away into the silent land;
When you can no more hold me by the hand,
Nor I half turn to go yet turning stay.
Remember me when no more day by day
You tell me of our future that you planned:
Only remember me; you understand
It will be late to counsel then or pray.
Yet if you should forget me for a while
And afterwards remember, do not grieve:
For if the darkness and corruption leave
A vestige of the thoughts that once I had,
Better by far you should forget and smile
than that you should remember and be sad.
-Christina Rosetti
Marilyn Elizabeth Welter, age 77, of Auberry, California was entered into rest on Saturday, April 6, 2024, after a courageous battle with stage 4 breast cancer. There was no one like her; sweet, cheerful, and kind. Marilyn touched the lives of those around her with her strength, resilience, and unwavering spirit. Despite facing the challenges of her illness, she remained a beacon of hope and inspiration to all who knew her.
Marilyn was born in Oxnard, California. She grew up in the small community of Three Rivers, California. Marilyn loved exploring the trails down by the river and enjoyed the changes in season. In Elementary school, Marilyn’s favorite subject was science and her favorite activities included riding horses, crystal hunting with her mom, hiking, camping, painting and sewing. In 1959, Marilyn went to Woodlake High school in California. Her thoughts and feelings and the compassion she felt for her fellowman found a way of expressing itself with her activism, artwork, and education in the outside world. Marilyn attended Humboldt State University in 1964-1969 and graduated with a major in Art and a minor in History. She received her lifetime Elementary Teaching Credential the following year. She regarded her college years as a wonderful and rewarding experience. For years to come, she continued her lifestyle of a mixture of traveling, creating artwork, enjoying live music, substitute teaching and her love of photography and poetry. She excelled in photography and creating the most beautiful painted tie dye artistic creations. Through mutual friends, she met the love of her life, Chris. They were married at the Episcopalian Church in Visalia on December 18th 1973.
Marilyn is survived by her dear family her husband, Chris Welter; her daughter Angeline Elizabeth Medlin (husband Duncan Medlin); and her daughter Celeste Star Parke (husband Jason Parke); her sister Susan Baldridge (nephew Jed Baldridge); her grandchild Juniper Kyle, her grandchild Samantha Medlin, her grandchild Dylan Parke and her grandchild Gavin Parke.
