Marilyn's obituary

Marilyn Denise Okosi was born in Harlem, New York January 23rd, 1956 to Landon and Eugene (Banks) Dunston. Growing up in New York, she learned to work hard as well as explore her passions. In her youth she studied ballet, tap, and jazz dance. Marilyn studied mathematics at Northwestern University and spent most of her career working with computers and as a K-12 teacher. She later retired from the Charlotte-Mecklenburg school system after 10 years of dedicated service. Marilyn was married to her husband Charles Okosi for 34 years and had two children Charles Okosi Jr. (29) and Mercedes Jean Okosi (27). She was a warm and loving wife and mother to her family. She always exerted her best efforts to uplift others and create joy in the world with a smile or a song, despite her own suffering. Marilyn was supportive and encouraging of her children to do whatever they set their minds to, and beamed with pride about their accomplishments. She loved music, cooking, travel, and movies. Marilyn died in Charlotte, North Carolina May 25th, 2019 at age 63. She lived a full life, but had many hopes and aspirations ahead of her. Her husband and her children celebrate her legacy.
