Marilyn's obituary
Marilyn was raised by her grandparents, Melvin and Josepha Johnson, in Yuma, AZ, after the death of her parents, Donna in 1964 and Leroy in 1967. She graduated from Kofa High School in 1977. In 1980, she married Jimmy Schroeder in Yuma. Together, they raised two children, Carrie and Robbie. Although they later divorced, they formed a strong friendship, and Jimmy was her caretaker up until the end. The rest of the family is eternally grateful for the comfort and care Jimmy and his wife, Sharon, have given Marilyn.
She enjoyed crocheting, cross stitching, beading, horses, going out to Jackrabbit to photograph the sunsets, and visiting her sister in Wisconsin and photographing every barn she saw. She also loved going to Phoenix to ride around to job sites with her brother, Mike. Above all, she enjoyed spending time with her family; her kids and grandkids meant everything to her.
Marilyn is survived by her daughter, Carrie (Cole Contreras); son, Robbie (Michelle); brother, Mike (Nina) Matten; sister, Laura Segrin; grandchildren, Bradley and McKenna; one aunt, Avis Johnson; former husband and forever friend, Jimmy (Sharon) Schroeder; and many cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Leroy and Donna Matten; an infant brother, Leroy Jr.; her grandparents, Melvin and Josepha Johnson and Oscar and Marie Matten; her parents-in-law, Robert and Lois Schroeder; aunts, uncles, and cousins.
The family has entrusted Johnson Mortuary and Desert Lawn Memorial Park with the arrangements. A visitation and celebration of her life is scheduled for January 6, 2021 at 1:00 pm.
