Marilyn's obituary
Marilyn Lucas
(1946–2026)
Marilyn Lucas, beloved wife and life partner to Terry Buckalew, passed away peacefully on February 25, 2026, just two days before what would have been her 80th birthday on February 27. She was surrounded by the love of her family.
Born in Battle Creek, Michigan, she was the youngest daughter of Herb and Mary (Abraham) Lucas. She graduated from Kalamazoo College and, with a spirit of adventure, traveled abroad to teach English — an early reflection of the curiosity, independence, and heart for service that would define her life.
Marilyn was a loving and proud mother to Edward Buckalew and his wife Joanna; Marlena Grosholz (Buckalew) and her husband Brian; and a caring stepmother to Becca Torregrossa (Buckalew) and her husband Keith. Marilyn’s greatest joy was her role as grandmother. She adored her five granddaughters — Mackenzie, Payton, and Kennedy Grosholz; Wren Buckalew; and Madison Torregrossa — and her grandson, Nicholas Torregrossa. Each of them held a special place in her heart, and she delighted in watching them grow.
Two lifelong friends, Carol Clarke and Carole Thomson — her “Carols” — framed her life with laughter, loyalty, and unwavering support.
Professionally, Marilyn built a meaningful career in fundraising and development, working her way up through dedication, integrity, and heart. She remained true to herself by choosing to serve in the nonprofit world, where her lifelong passion for helping others could flourish. Her work reflected who she was at her core — compassionate, driven, and committed to making a difference.
Marilyn was known for her grace and polish. She carried herself with quiet confidence and care, always thoughtfully put together — unless she was watching a Philadelphia sports game. In those moments, her composure gave way to spirited enthusiasm, revealing the lively, passionate side that those who loved her knew so well.
The family extends heartfelt gratitude to Nedges Nest, whose compassionate care provided comfort and dignity in her final days. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Nedges Nest in Marilyn’s memory. Checks can be made to Nedges Nest and mailed to 902 Morningside Lane, Allen, Texas 75002, or Zelle payments sent to 214-734-6101.
Marilyn will be remembered for her warmth, her loyalty, her strength, and the deep love she carried for her family and friends. Her legacy lives on in the many lives she touched and in the family she cherished so dearly. She will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
