Marilyn's obituary

Marilyn Sabra Kluge Hanesworth was born November 29, 1937 in Richmond, Virginia and passed away at age 85 on December 13, 2022 in her home of over 50 years in Fremont, CA.  Although she happily spent the majority of her adult life in Fremont, she told such detailed stories about her life moving across America.

She worked as a flight attendant for Eastern Airlines, and met Jim Hanesworth on a flight as she was delivering beverages. Jim made a cheesy, cute remark and the rest was history. They married on July 15, 1961 in Columbus, Ohio. Together they had three daughters; Kimberley, Catherine and Sandra. Additionally, they welcomed five grandchildren; Justin, Sarah, Jasmine, Tori and Samantha into the world.

Marilyn instilled strong values in her children and grandchildren and these values will continue to be passed on for generations to come. Her family describes her as ‘above her time,’ sharp, spunky, beautiful story teller, fantastic sense of humor and definitely a bit feisty-in the best way possible of course. She left a lasting impression on many people as she loved so deeply, and approached life with such heartfelt kindness. Her love language was undeniably gift giving, she loved treasure hunting through Ross, Tuesday Morning and Hallmark for perfect presents for those close to her. She was always picking up special gifts for her loved ones and items to donate to children in need. She was very passionate about giving back and supported a variety of charities including; The National Wildlife Foundation,  National Park Foundation, Humane Society, Disabled Veterans of America, Tri-City volunteers and other local charities.

Over the years she loved hosting spectacular parties for her various groups of friends; this included cancer support, bingo, cards and scrabble groups. She was an entertainer by nature, and loved all the delicate and precise details that came with party planning.

Marilyn is survived by her daughter Kimberely, her son-in-law David and their children Jasmine and Samantha; her daughter Catherine; her daughter Sandra, son-in law Al and their children Justin, Sarah and Tori. She is preceded in death by her husband James Edward Hanesworth who passed away May 15, 2018. She leaves behind her three sisters Kay, Linda and Dolly; and her beloved, 16 year old cats Gilly, Sunshine and Harley. In addition to the listed loved ones she leaves behind a large, loving family who will forever be grateful for the many ways she blessed and enriched our lives for so many years.
