Marilyn's obituary
Marilyn A. Feldman, 93, of Springfield, Massachusetts died on April 5th with her grandniece by her side. If you knew Marilyn, then you knew one fierce, funny, spirited woman with a lot of love in her heart. She dreamed of playing and teaching piano, but as she remarked, "In those days, they just pointed to you and said, 'You're going to be a secretary.'" And so she worked hard for the Chamber of Commerce for 35 years, and on April 7th, 1995, the day she retired, Mayor Robert T. Markel gave her the commendation of 'Marilyn Feldman Day.' In retirement she volunteered for Temple Beth El, where she was a visible and well-appreciated congregation member with many friends from the community. She had an abiding love for her father, Max, who died tragically when she was 12, and she cared for her mother, Frances, until her death in 1993 at the age of 102. Marilyn reveled in lively gatherings and had a passion for people, travel, and cooking. She could play Scrabble for hours on end and had a witty response for any wise comment. She was strong, and she was beautiful. And she will be deeply missed. Marilyn was predeceased by both parents, her sister, Barbara, and her beloved niece, Judith. In addition to her grandniece, Katie, her nephew, Matthew, and her niece Florence, she is survived by a grandnephew, Michael, a great-grandnephew, Michael Anthony, and many loved ones who counted her as part of their families. A private remembrance for Marilyn will take place at the immediate family's convenience. In lieu of a public gathering, Marilyn would appreciate contributions made in her name to the Jewish Family Service of Western MA.
