Martie was my coach for softball & basketball for four years at the Bladensburg Boys & Girls Club. She was also a great friend. My memories of her include things like: her love for Mickey Mouse, having the team (a group of 10 year olds) paint the doctor's office where she worked, flying over the railroad tracks in Edmonston in her little blue car while lifting your feet for good luck, Chinese fire drills in her car, all the rides to/from practices & games, and most of all -- our love for pizza (think we hit every pizza shop in the Bladensburg/Riverdale area). Although we didn't see each other much later in life, she came to my wedding in 1989, and also to the hospital to meet my daughter when she was born in 1991. We reconnected via Facebook ( a wonderful thing). And, she never ever forgot my birthday. I got a card from her every year. She was a really special person, and I will truly miss her. Thanks for all the wonderful memories. Love, Julie Raulin (Carroll) (aka Birdbrain - nicknamed by Martie lol). Rest in peace.
