Marie's obituary
Marie Ann Piemonte, age 60, passed away peacefully on October 26th, 2022, at Banner University Medical Center in Phoenix, Arizona. She was attended to by numerous staff of the facility, her son Ian and daughter-in-law, Brianna.
Born in Johnstown, PA on January 29th, 1962, she is preceded in death by her parents Pete J. and Ethel M. (Zabrosky) Piemonte. Marie is survived by her stepmother Carole Piemonte, her two sons Ian Strawn (wife Brianna) and Wesley Strawn (wife Laura), grandchildren Jackson, Iris, and Lucy, brother Joseph Piemonte (wife Tami) and sister Theresa Piemonte, niece Amanda and her three children (Bailey, Luke, and Leo), and nephew Steven.
Marie (Grammy, or as Jackson and Iris aptly named her "Tiggy Grammy", “Grandma Dog”, or simply “Grandmother”), appreciated the simpler things in life. A graduate of Conemaugh Valley High School, Marie spent most of her life living and raising her family in the Johnstown area, eventually moving to Phoenix in 2017 to be with her son Ian and his family. She enjoyed any activity involving the outdoors and cooler temperatures (especially after moving to the desert). A devout Christian at heart, she spread kindness and love to all she knew. She valued time with people she cared about more than anything (including family, friends, co-workers and her cat, “Pretty Boy”).
Unfortunately, Marie battled a cardiogenetic heart condition for more than 15 years; the same condition that prematurely took the lives of numerous family members on her maternal (Zabrosky) side of the family since the 1960s. This included Marie and Joseph’s mother at age 25.
Services will be held at Oakland United Methodist Church in Johnstown, PA beginning at 1PM on May 27th, 2023. She will be laid to rest with her mother Ethel at St. John Gaulbert Cathedral Cemetery in Geistown, PA. All proceeds will be donated to the American Heart Association for the advancement of curing heart related illnesses.
