Marian's obituary
On the morning of 9 May 2019, Mommie fell and severely injured her spinal cord. Mom transitioned peacefully at Penn Presbyterian Hospital on 14 May 2019 while surrounded by loved ones.
Mom was a wonderful storyteller. Her life and travels took her to Alaska, Egypt and many destinations in between. Mommie was a gifted seamstress, a creative homemaker and in her professional and personal life, Mom believed that the customer was always right.
Mom took great pride and pleasure in writing thank you notes, preparing your favorite meal and creating a stylish outfit for herself and those that she loved.
Mom was preceded in death by her parents Sunell and John Williams; her husband Jacob I. Thomas; and her great-grandson Branden D. Burnett, Jr.
Mom leaves behind a family that will truly miss her presence in their lives. She is survived by her brother Herbert B. Williams; her sisters Andrea Scott - Lewis, Althea Williams Harris; her daughters Gina Thomas Johnson (Juan), Kelly Thomas Burnett, Andre Thomas, and Kame Jo Thomas; her grandchildren Branden Burnett, Emmanuel Johnson, Rachel Thomas, Jordan Johnson, Jaron Thomas and Jacob Thomas II; her great-granddaughters Imani Franklin, Madison Thomas and Bella Burnett . As well as a host of in-laws, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Thank you for your condolences, prayers, and stories. They have helped us as we grieve the loss of our mother, sister, mom-mom, aunt, cousin, and friend. As a means to keep our mother’s memory alive, please share a story or a photo on this memorial page.
Mom’s final wishes were that her body be donated to scientific research. In September, Mommie’s cremated remains will return to us, at which time we will celebrate her life. In June we will provide details about mom’s homecoming celebration planned for September.
In lieu of flowers, we ask that you take a moment to research whole body donations. Mom chose Lifequest Anatomical to carry out her final wishes. In addition, our youngest sister, Kame Jo, was Mommie’s primary caregiver. Kame established a GoFundMe to help herself and mom relocate to Georgia. Now with the death of our mother, her need is even greater. Thank you.
