Mariam's obituary
إِنَّا لِلَّهِ وَإِنَّآ إِلَيْهِ
رَٰجِعُونَ
Inna lillahi wa inna ilaihi raji'un
'Verily we belong to Allah, and verily to Him do we return.’
It is with great sorrow that the Ahmed family announces the passing of our beloved Mariam Darsot. We pray that she finds peace in her final resting place.
Mariam lived an extraordinary life filled with laughter and love. She was the heart of our family.
Daughter to Suleman Darsot and Amina Khanji, sister to Younus, wife to Shahid Ahmed, mother to Ayesha (Rizwan), Usman (Samra), Omair (Hira), and Aman, grandmother to Zia, Zaki, Yusha, and Reem, niece, aunt and cousin to many; Mariam’s love and devotion to her family and faith knew no bounds. She loved her family with all her heart and we will miss her presence dearly.
Friends knew Mariam as someone who loved to share a laugh and lend a hand. The mention of a friend’s name, no matter how near or far, always brought a smile to her face, even at the end when words were hard to come by.
Mariam knew many homes during her life. After leaving her birthplace of Karachi, Pakistan in her twenties, she found homes in many unfamiliar places. No matter where her path took her, Mariam never hesitated to dive into the communities where she settled. She deeply cherished the relationships that blossomed at each stop, and left a trail of fond memories and goodwill at each turn.
Mariam along with her husband of 43 years, Shahid founded Nexus Pharmaceuticals in 2003 and for the next 20 years provided accessible and affordable medications to patients across the United States. The success of the company allowed Mariam to spend time with her four children as they built their family business together.
Mariam's generous spirit extended to family and friends near and far who needed a kind word or support during a difficult time.
For those who knew and loved Mariam, we thank you on her behalf for being a part of her journey.
We ask that you join in remembering Mariam by attending her janaza (funeral prayer) or simply by reflecting on a fond memory of her and saying a prayer in her name.
Mariam’s janaza will be held at Islamic Foundation North, 1751 S. O'Plaine Road, Libertyville, IL 60048 on Sunday December 31st at 1:15 pm following zuhr prayer. Burial on to immediately follow at Highland Memorial Park at 33100 Hunt Club Road Libertyville, Illinois.
In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to UMMA (https://www.ummacenters.org/) or any charity that would honor her memory.
