Background
We are deeply saddened to share the passing of Maria, a devoted single mother of three and beloved granddaughter of Ruby Sutton. Maria worked hard while battling chronic illness, often pushing through exhaustion to provide for her family and to be there for those she loved.
She is survived by her three children:
LaTrease Sutton-Smith (Area Residential Care, Imagine The Possibilities)
Ezikieal McCalip (student at Lionel University studying Exercise Science)
Elijah McCalip (currently a Junior at Dubuque Senior High School)
Maria also leaves behind her parents, Elsa and Dave Sutton of Dubuque, her brother Jay Sutton, and many other relatives and friends who loved her dearly.
We are raising funds to help cover funeral expenses so that Maria’s family can honor her life and her final wish to be buried by her grandparents without the added stress of financial hardship. Any additional funds raised will go directly toward supporting Elijah with living expenses until he graduates high school.
