Maria's obituary
Maria Ciano Rosborough
October 14, 1941 - August 15, 2023
Maria Rosaria Ciano Rosborough, of Provo, Utah, found her rest on the morning of Tuesday, August 15th, 2023, after five years with cancer. She leaves an immeasurable hole in our lives, alongside a legacy of intrepid faith and devoted service.
Maria was born in Rome, Italy, the “Eternal City” and the center of Christianity, on October 14th, 1941. She was the sixth and youngest child of Raffaela Merrola and Gennaro Ciano, with siblings Anna, Vincenzo, Costanzo, Antonio, and Clementina. Her foundation of Catholicism and Christian faith endowed her with the strength and courage which would carry her throughout her life, and would lead to her conversion to The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in 1969. This would go on to shape her future and influence her decisions for the rest of her life, including the choice to immigrate to America in 1974. Here she formed lifelong bonds, as with the Goffs of Highland, Utah, and eventually with her eternal companion, Douglas Mark Rosborough.
Perhaps the most widely-known feature in Maria’s life was her incredible work at the Missionary Training Center in Provo, Utah. She touched the lives of thousands throughout a career of almost 40 years, teaching and endlessly serving in the cause she held so dear. She was also a great advocate of education, and was very proud to have earned her degree in Humanities with an emphasis in Art History, from Brigham Young University.
Maria is preceded in death by her parents, her siblings, and nephews Toni and Claudio Ciano. She is survived by her husband, Douglas Rosborough, her children Monika (Marcel), GianMarco (Wendee), Alessandro (Andrea), Lisa (Brad), and Karyn (Brent); grandchildren Sandro, Ambrynn, Colter, Jaantje, Johannes, Kohler, Niccolo, Chrisvenn, Joshua, Logan, Siena, Ilaria, Jonah, Roman, Brenner, Valentina, and Emilia, and great grandchildren Holland and Matteo.
Nothing was more sacred to Maria than her family, her temple covenants, and above all the Lord Jesus Christ and her Father in Heaven. She was our pioneer, and always said she let the Lord fight her battles. We will miss her loving face, her infectious laugh, and artistic touch in our lives, as well as her powerful testimony and stalwart teachings. We know she is in the midst of loved ones and free at last from earthly cares, and we will faithfully carry on in the tradition of family and faith she so arduously sacrificed to instill in us.
Maria will be interred at East Lawn Memorial Hills Cemetery in a private family ceremony. In lieu of flowers, she asked that donations be made to the Missionary Fund of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints.
