Maria's obituary
“Though my soul may set in darkness, it will rise in perfect light; I have loved the stars too fondly to be fearful of the night.”
— Sarah Williams, Twilight Hours: A Legacy Of Verse
Maria Lynn Robinson-McMullen was born May 31, 1967 in Enid, OK, to parents Paula and Raymond. She was the eldest of Paula’s three children; big sister to brothers Douglas and Peter. Maria always had a fiery spirit and love of independence, which led her through a life of traveling. In her younger years, Maria moved from Oklahoma to California, and then to Texas with her mother and brothers. Maria was close with her grandparents, and great-grandparents, whom they moved to Texas to be with. Maria graduated from high school in Tyler, TX, and a few years later, made her way to Coleman, TX with Paula.
Maria met her first husband Daryl while living in Coleman, and, in 1993, they had their daughter Emily. The trio moved near Abilene, TX, and made their home for a brief time together. Though Maria and Daryl’s marriage ended in 1995, they were great friends for years after. They shared countless holidays and meals together, with Daryl remaining an integral part of the family.
Maria loved traveling to the beach with her family each summer, and taking trips to Dallas to see her brothers several times a year. She was very close with her family, and adored her nieces and nephews. Stella, Jacob, Davis, and Evey will always have an angel watching over them from the stars! Maria is survived by her husband Weston, her mother Paula, daughter Emily & husband Chris, her brothers Douglas & wife Britney, and Peter & wife Corey, and many extended family members, in-laws, and friends. They all will cherish the memories of Maria’s glowing love and boisterous laughter for the rest of their lives.
In 2015, Maria met the love of her life, Weston, in Snyder, TX, and was immediately swept off her feet. They would grow an incredibly strong love, and he would take her to the most beautiful destinations she had ever seen. Their many trips to New Mexico, Colorado, and Utah would come to be some of the best times of Maria’s life. She and Weston were married in a private ceremony in 2020, and continued the life of adventure they shared.
After a battle with COVID-19 and related complications, Maria went to the light on August 20, 2021. She passed away peacefully, and was surrounded by family. Maria was welcomed into Heaven by her grandparents Pawpaw (Douglas) & Frankie, her great-grandparents Daddy Cobb & Buna Mama, her father Ray, her first husband & friend Daryl, and many extended family members & friends.
Those who knew Maria closely felt what a passionate woman she was; whether in that moment she was loving you with her whole heart, or upset at you with her whole heart! Maria was a Gemini through and through, and always had a love for the sun, moon, and sky. She was a bright presence everywhere she went, and is devastatingly missed. No formal services will be planned, and Maria's cremains will be scattered. Though there is not a central resting place, may you always remember Maria’s spirit when you look at the stars!
