Maria's obituary
Maria “Re-Re” Onorato, age 56, of Morton, Pennsylvania, passed away peacefully on November 2, 2025, after a courageous battle with cancer.
Re-Re was born on December 14, 1968, in Delaware County Pennsylvania. She graduated from Ridley High School in 1987, continued her studies at Delaware County Community College (DCCC), and went on to earn her bachelor’s degree in Education (magna cum laude) from Ashford University in 2009. In 2015, she achieved her master’s degree in Education from Drexel University (Drexel One)— a reflection of her lifelong passion for learning.
Re-Re’s greatest pride and joy was her son, William McGinnis, who brought her more happiness and purpose than anything else in her life. She faced every challenge with strength and integrity, and even during her illness, she continued to show kindness, resilience, and compassion to everyone around her.
Re-Re is lovingly survived by her son, William McGinnis her mother and father Betty and Harry Cannon, her two brothers Mark and Joseph Onorato, and her sister Elizabeth Onorato. She will be deeply missed by her cousin and confidante, SarahHenry, her sister in law Dolores Watson Onorato and her Aunt Anne Cannon. Re-Re also built her own circle of chosen family — people she trusted, laughed with, and supported through both joy and struggle — including her devoted boyfriend Juan Caraballo and his mother Ivette Caraballo, and her best friend Deneen Gavin Shadrick and family, who stood by her side through life’s toughest moments.
Re-Re also cherished her work family whom she missed deeply after her cancer diagnosis last year. And while at home, she shared her days with her beloved cat, Susie who brought her comfort and companionship until close to the end.
Those who knew Re-Re will remember her for her big heart, hearty laugh, and unwavering loyalty. She was the kind of person who showed up when it mattered, who persevered even in difficult times, and who made others feel seen, loved, and included.
A private family prayer will be held at Masjid Al-Wasatiyah, 5727 Hoffman Avenue, Philadelphia, PA 19143.
A burial open to family and friends will follow at Edgewood Memorial Park Cemetery in Glen Mills, Pennsylvania, with a Celebration of Life luncheon to follow at Springfield Country Club.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in Re-Re’s name may be made to the American Cancer Society, in honor of her strength and the many lives she inspired.
