Maria Urania's obituary
It is with great sorrow that we announce the passing of Mrs. Maria Urania Amaral Costa Botelho Mota, on Sunday, August 10th, 2025. Born on August 16, 1931, Maria Urania graced the world with her warm and generous spirit for nearly 94 years.
Maria Urania had a radiant personality, best described as warm, witty, kind, and compassionate. The lessons she imparted, the most notable being "Do unto others as you would like done unto you", will continue to guide all who were fortunate enough to know her.
Maria Urania single-handedly accomplished what was unthinkable for many in her time, moving to Toronto, Canada far from her family, and becoming the fulcrum of a household with four children while simultaneously learning English. These acts of immense courage stand as some of her greatest accomplishments.
Her legacy of kindness and generosity will continue to live on through her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, and extended family. She is survived by her four children, eight grandchildren and two great grandchildren. Daughters Leonor and Susana, grandsons Evans, Sean, Daniel (Alex), and Daniel, granddaughter Cassandra (Shane), great granddaughter Zorion and great grandson Aidan. Maria Urania is also survived by her son-in-laws, Joe Scire and Jim Telfer, her sisters Eulalia Canada, Irene Soares, Auxliadora Macedo, her brother-in-laws Noe Soares and Jose Macedo, and sister-in-law Ana Rosa Costa.
Maria was predeceased by her beloved husband, Jose Botelho Mota. Enduring their separation with grace, we find solace in the belief that they are now reunited in peace and love.
A Celebration of Life service for Maria Urania will be held on Sunday, August 17, 2025 from 2-6pm at Renaissance by the Creek, 3045 Southcreek Road, Mississauga. We invite you to join us in celebrating her life, sharing stories, and reminiscing about the wonderful moments we were all blessed to share with her.
Maria Urania's life was a testament to the power of love and generosity. Her memory will remain with us, inspire us, and guide us. She will be greatly missed.
