Maria “Tiny” Harbin was a matchmaker in 1976. Tomorrow, April 2, is the 48th anniversary of me asking my wife to marry me. My wife, Leslie Burlett (from Pittsburgh) went through basic training with Maria, and all 3 of us were in Naval Hospital Corps School. I was painfully shy, but Maria could see I was sweet on Leslie. She got us together, and she and Lee invited us to their place a few times. She served soft taco’s on April 2, 1976, and I had only one beer, and enough courage to ask Leslie to marry me. She said “yes”. This was only 15 days after we first met. We got married the next month at the courthouse and Maria and Lee were our witnesses. I am forever grateful that she helped us to meet. We are still married, and recently retired, and traveling across the country in our RV. I was so sorry to hear that Maria has passed. She was simply a wonderful person, and she and Lee were role models for us. She certainly made a difference in our lives. God bless you all.
