Maria's obituary

Maria Carolina "Cowie/Carol" Garza (maiden name - Ortega), 73, entered eternal grace on March 18, 2025, in Richardson, Texas. She was born on October 13, 1951, in San Juan, Texas.

Maria was a woman of deep faith and unwavering love for her family. She had a kind and generous heart and an innate ability to turn strangers into friends—an endearing trait she inherited from her mother. A devoted mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, Maria cherished every moment spent with her loved ones.

She is survived by her children: Ernest Tagle Jr., Patricia (Javier) Rodriguez, and Brenda (Justin) Burtch. Her legacy continues through her beloved grandchildren: Michael Rodriguez, Jacob Tagle, Julissa Tagle, Jocelynn Burtch, Christopher Tagle, Mikayla Burtch, Trinity Burtch, Nicholas Rodriguez, Isaiah Tagle, Ayden Tagle, Trey Rodriguez, and Marie Rodriguez; as well as her great-grandchildren: Caleb Tagle, Tristan Tagle, and Amaris Tagle.

Maria is also survived by her siblings: Placida Martinez, Jose (Anna) Ortega, Esther Ortega, Frank (Sylvia) Ortega, Carlos (Rosaura) Ortega, Guadalupe Ortega, and Cristela (Julian) Luna. She was preceded in death by her parents Irineo and Micaela Ortega; brothers Juan Martinez and Richard Ortega; and sister San Juanita Ortega.

In her earlier years, Maria found joy in sewing, dancing, and staying active with her grandchildren. In more recent years, she developed a love for Bingo—never missing a game—and often brought along her youngest grandchildren Trey and Marie to share in the fun. Shopping trips with her daughter Patty and the kids and outings to new restaurants were treasured moments that allowed Maria to escape the confines of the nursing home and revel in laughter and love with her family.

Maria’s faith was the cornerstone of her life. She remained steadfast in prayer and never wavered in her devotion to God or those she held dear. Despite medical challenges, she faced every obstacle with perseverance and prayer, always overcoming victoriously through God’s compassion and the prayers of family and friends. Maria was a prayer warrior who always looked for silver linings and blessings in everything. She shared her faith with others and her greatest honor was bringing her children and their families to the Lord by means of being a loving example for them.

A visitation will be held on March 21, 2025, from 5:00 PM to 9:00 PM at De Leon Funeral Home, located at 702 E. Expressway 83 in Pharr, Texas. The word of God and prayer will be shared by Maria's hometown Pastor, Josh Gutierrez at 7:15 PM.

Maria’s warmth and unwavering love will be deeply missed but forever remembered by those whose lives she touched. Never forget her "I love you more" as she watches over us from heaven.
