I am so sorry to hear this news. Mari was such a bright spot on our team at the University of Chicago (when the Family Medicine Department was a very new concept for the university!) You will be missed. Hugs for your family and all who knew her.

We never got to meet Mari, but in just a few short months after meeting in 2021, her daughter, Fiona became one of our absolute best friends. Fiona is the best of the best: loving, committed to what she cares about, whip-smart, warm, funny and fun.
After reading everything said about Mari, it sounds like the effect she had on her community is similar to the effect Fiona has had on us. It’s clear Mari leaves an enormous legacy that reaches far and wide. The gift she leaves for us specifically is our forever friend. Thank you, Mari, for giving us Fiona.
To the Potters, Egans and all who loved Mari: we are thinking of you and are so deeply sorry for your loss.
With love,
Rebecca Fisher and April Mendez

What an amazing person! So vibrant, funny, and upright. She will be missed here at work, her laugh, her patients, her love for Evanston (ha-ha). She helped and encouraged me and her presence and heart will be missed. So sorry for your loss.

Dear Mark, Fiona, Maeve, and all who loved Mari. Your pain dwarfs mine of course, yet I do want to share how I hurt as well for this beautiful life cut so short. I wish we would have had occasion to spend more time together. Having met Mari only briefly, enjoying seal antics at La Jolla beach, I was charmed by her right away - nurturing, warm and funny yet with a serious demeanor. But I know Mari most through the reminiscences and stories shared by her devoted daughter Fiona, who I know will continue to share her memories with us all for decades to come.
