Marjorie's obituary

In Loving Memory

Marjorie Finkle Chevrier

June 24, 1941 – March 29, 2026

Marjorie Finkle Chevrier, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, nurse, and friend, passed away peacefully on March 29, 2026. She was 84 years old. Born on June 24, 1941, in Akron, Ohio, Marjorie lived her entire life in the city she loved, leaving an imprint on everyone fortunate enough to know her.

A proud graduate of Akron North High School and Akron General Nursing School, Marjorie devoted more than three decades of her life to caring for others as a Registered Nurse at Akron General Medical Center. The majority of those years were spent in Emergency Medicine, where she was a warm presence and a comfort to patients and families in their most vulnerable moments. She approached her work not merely as a profession, but as a calling, and the Akron community was better for it.

Her faith was the quiet anchor of her life. Marjorie was a devoted member of The Chapel and held a deep, abiding belief in Jesus Christ that shaped how she moved through the world with grace, generosity, and an openness to others that few people possess. She was deeply involved in several East Ohio Emmaus walks, where she found meaningful fellowship and spiritual renewal, and she cherished the opportunity to both grow in her faith and support others on their journeys.

Marjorie’s servant heart extended far beyond her work in nursing. Through her childhood church (Trinity United Church of Christ), she helped establish and sustain a food and clothing pantry (TNC), ensuring that families in need were cared for with dignity and compassion. Each year, she lovingly coordinated the adoption of multiple families at Christmastime, organizing donations from her colleagues in the emergency department, shopping for, assembling baskets, and personally delivering them. She found great joy in giving to others, quietly and faithfully meeting needs wherever she saw them.

Outside of her work and faith, Marjorie found joy in the simple, beautiful things. She tended her flower garden with love and joy, and she loved to travel and camp. Kelleys Island, Ohio, held a special place in her heart—a peaceful retreat of water and sunsets where she created countless cherished memories with her friends and family.

Marjorie delighted in Broadway musicals and made it her mission to share that delight with her children and grandchildren, introducing them to timeless classics like "The Sound of Music" and "The King and I".  She was also known to break into a few bars of “Bushel and a Peck” from Guys and Dolls — a song she sang to her children and grandchildren, always sealing it with a hug and a kiss.

Those who knew Marjorie will always remember her beautiful smile and the warmth she offered as a gift to every person she met—she had a way of brightening every room she entered.

Marjorie is survived by her husband, Michael Francis; her sister, Susan Radbourne (Mary Brigid); her daughters, Lisa Mansfield (Eric) and Rachele Kappler (Forrest); five grandsons, Joshua (Sierra), Bradley (Janna), Jacob, Matthew, and Teddy; and two cherished great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, Pat and Marie Finkle.

In keeping with her lifelong dedication to helping others, Marjorie made the generous decision to donate her body to science, continuing her legacy of care, learning, and service even after her passing.

The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the compassionate caregivers of Comfort Keepers and Traditions Hospice, whose kindness, dignity, and support brought comfort to Marjorie and her family.

Marjorie lived a life of service, love, and faith. She is gone, but the warmth she carried with her — in hospital corridors, in garden rows, in her favorite music, and around campfires at the island’s edge — will continue to bloom in the family and friends she leaves behind.

So now, as Marjorie would tell all of us, “Go love 'em silly!”

Family and friends are invited to gather in remembrance of Marjorie on Tuesday, May 19, 2026 at Himelright Lodge located in the Cascade Valley Metro Park 1212 Cuyahoga Street Akron, Ohio 44313. Calling hours will be held from 5:00 to 6:00 p.m., with a memorial service to follow at 6:00 p.m. After the memorial service, all are welcome to stay for a meal and a time of fellowship.
