Margarethe's obituary
Margarethe Sawyer Burton, 86, passed away peacefully on April 25 under the care of Haven Hospice of Orange park, Fl. She was born on August 1, 1939, in Ellenville, New York, to Virginia and Robert Sawyer.
Margarethe lived a life marked by creativity, curiosity, beauty, and undeniable magnetism. In her younger years, she was crowned Ms. New Smyrna Florida 1956 and also held the title Miss Legs of Miami. After attending community college, she built a varied career in modeling, landscaping, management, retail, and ultimately became the owner of an antique shop, where her love of history and beauty found its fullest expression.
She found joy in animals, agriculture, art, cooking, and antiquing, always discovering the extraordinary in the ordinary. She will be remembered for her humor, kindness, wit, and creativity—qualities she shared generously with everyone around her.
Margarethe was preceded in death by her husband, Ron Burton, and her sons J.H. Burton and Charles Savarese. She is survived by her daughters Jeannine Cullum, Sabrina Savarese, and Margarethe Archer; and her beloved grandchildren Tiffany and Skyler, who especially carry forward her quick wit and sense of humor, along with a third grandchild who carries her spirit onward. She was preceded in death by her sister Aline Barnett and is survived by her cherished brother Tom Sawyer, whom she lovingly regarded as her hero—the kind of brother anyone could only dream of having.
In her later years, Marg made her home at Silver Treasures in Fleming Island, Florida, where her warmth and gentle presence brought comfort and connection to those around her.
A private family memorial will be held to honor and celebrate her life.
