Margaret Shanks-Koenig, a vibrant and spirited matriarch, passed away on December 7, 2024, having been born on September 17, 1932 in Blytheville, Arkansas. Her life was filled with joy and her presence will be deeply missed.
Margaret leaves behind an adoring family: her daughters—Christl Koenig and Rosanna Malone, and sons—Robert Martinez and Ken Koenig. She is predeceased by her son, Gilbert (Dood) Martinez. She was a beloved big sister to her seven siblings: William Johnson, Joseph Shanks, Wayne Shanks, Glenda Shanks - Leonard, Jane Shanks-Best, Patsy Shanks-Nordest, and Thomas Shanks. Margaret's love and legacy continue to thrive in her 12 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, and 4 great-great-grandchildren, as well as her numerous nephews and nieces.
Renowned for her quick wit, intelligence, and go-getter attitude, Margaret lived life to the fullest. She had a profound love for food, particularly enjoying chocolate, ice cream, licorice, and Italian cuisine, and she could never resist a well-made Margarita.
Margaret was a devoted reader, especially of the Enquirer and Globe. She loved listening to Willie Nelson and was an ardent fan of old western TV shows. Her taste in art was eclectic, where she expressed affection for clowns, sunflowers, and nature-based pieces.
In her free time, Margaret enjoyed life, playing Scrabble, crosswords, talking on the phone, and she was an enthusiastic fan of watching golf. She cherished watching performances from The Voice and America’s Got Talent. Among her favorite recreational activities were spending time with her grandchildren, trips to the casino, and visiting Monterey and Apple Hill. Locally, she loved going to the old town and the river.
A woman of principle and heart, Margaret was passionate about causes related to veterans. Her favorite color, red, was as vibrant as her personality. Her memories will be treasured, her life celebrated, and her love will continue to inspire all those she leaves behind.
