Margaret's obituary

Margaret Ruth Meier (Henning), 82, died February, 11, 2020 at the home of her daughter in Idaho.
Margaret loved looking for the moon and marveling at how, having no light of it’s own, it reflected the sun’s light. In the same way she wanted her life to reflect God’s light. She exemplified 1 John 4:19 “We love because He first loved us.” She used her love for sewing, baking, playing and singing music to serve others and did everything as a reflection of her love for her Lord Jesus. Even now her wall quilts, recipes, and the songs she sang or played continue to give witness and nurture faith and love in countless others.
She was born April 23, 1937 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin to Clarence and Norma Henning. After graduating from Columbia Nursing School, she married Norbert Meier on September 14, 1957 and shortly thereafter they moved to Billings, Montana to start a church and began raising their four children. Although she originally considered Montana to be “the end of the earth” she also eventually served faithfully alongside Norb as missionaries in Tokyo, Japan, Fairbanks, Alaska, St.Paul, Minnesota, and Kumba, Cameroon. Besides raising children and supporting Norb’s work, Margaret worked as an RN at Lyngblomsten and Comforts of Home nursing homes where she was loved by the residents. Everywhere her servant’s heart personified her love for Jesus and demonstrated 1 John 3:18 “Dear children, let us not love with words or speech but with actions and in truth.”
Margaret was preceded in death by her husband of 58 years, Norbert and her brother John Henning.
She is survived by her brother Tom Henning (Elaine) of New Ulm, Minnesota, her children, Jeneane Powers (Steve) of Fairbanks, Alaska. Karen Meyerhofer (Rick) of Wasilla, Alaska. Lori Malnes (Dave) of Meridian Idaho. Ronald Meier (Marni) of Palmer, Alaska. 12 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren.
She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews, her church family, and a whole neighborhood she called her second family.

A celebration of Margaret’s life will be held at Mt. Olive Lutheran Church, 1460 Almond Ave W, St Paul on March 28 at 1:00. Due to current circumstances this has been postponed to a yet to be determined later date. We will post an update when that date is set.
