Margaret's obituary
Margaret “Nanny” Michael, 83, passed away peacefully on Tuesday evening, April 28, 2026. She was born on July 17, 1942, in Memphis, Tennessee, and spent most of her life in the Memphis area, where she built a life shaped by her love for family and the way she brought everyone together.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Billy Joe Michael, and her daughter, Beverly Massey.
She is survived by her daughters, Terri Michael and Janet Cotter; her grandchildren, Brandon Massey, Lauren Reilly (Cotter), and Bre Cotter; and her six great-grandchildren, who brought her immense joy.
Nanny was truly the heart of her family. Everyone naturally gathered around her, and she set the example for what a strong, loving matriarch looks like. She raised her three daughters close in age, creating a bond that continues to shape the family today.
She loved a margarita, playing games, and having a good time with her friends and family. Some of the most cherished memories are of her laughing right alongside everyone, fully present in every moment. It was especially meaningful to see her with her great-grandchildren, who were fortunate to know her love firsthand.
Her family is deeply grateful for the life she built and the example she set. She will be remembered as the center of it all, and her presence will be felt in every family gathering.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, May 5, 2026, from 2:00 to 3:00 p.m., with services to follow from 3:00 to 4:00 p.m. at Braden Mason Church.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, a cause close to their hearts here in Memphis.
