Margaret's obituary
In Loving Memory of Margaret Larkin
Margaret Jean Larkin, affectionately known as Jeannie, Gram, Maggie May, passed away peacefully on January 24, 2026 in Rockaway NJ, just five days shy of her 90th birthday, surrounded by her loving family. Born on January 29, 1936, in Orange, NJ Margaret lived a long and beautiful life devoted to family and love.
Margaret met the love of her life, Thomas “Tippy” Larkin, at St. John’s Grammar School—a meeting that began a lifetime partnership rooted in love and loyalty. They were married on April 12, 1958, in West Orange, New Jersey, and together built a beautiful life. In 1965, they settled in Rockaway, New Jersey, where they raised their four children: Susan Shusta (Rob), Thomas C. Larkin (Gabrielle), Christopher Larkin (Lu), and Jennifer Larkin. Their home was one filled with warmth, laughter, and the unmistakable comfort of a mother who was always there.
Margaret’s most treasured role was that of grandmother. She found her greatest joy in time spent with her grandchildren—Sarah, Timothy, Emily, Connor, Claire, Brinley, Amy, Thomas, and Tristan—and later with her great-grandchildren—Jack, Will, Gil, Ellie, Iris, and Olivia. She delighted in family milestones, never missing a birthday and making Christmas truly magical with thoughtful gifts and traditions that will be cherished for generations.
Margaret had a deep love for summer and the beach, finding peace and happiness near the water. She created many cherished memories on vacations to Hilton Head, Cape May Pt, and Spain, and enjoyed the fun and camaraderie of bus trips to Atlantic City. Whether traveling or at home, she appreciated life’s simple pleasures and the joy of being surrounded by those she loved.
Margaret leaves behind a legacy defined by love, selflessness, and devotion. Her gentle spirit, steady guidance, and generous heart will live on in her family and in all who knew her. Though she will be deeply missed, the love she gave so freely remains—woven into the lives she touched and the family she so dearly cherished.
In lieu of flowers a donation can be made to the American Lung Association in Margaret’s name.
