Peggy's obituary

Margaret “Peggy” Joyce (Rettinger) Ringer DallaPiazza, 80, of McDonald, Cecil Township, passed away after a devastating but brief illness on Tuesday, April 7, 2026, at Washington Hospital.

Peggy was born on April 15, 1945, in Canonsburg, the daughter of the late Edward Joseph and Margaret Amanda (Wilson) Rettinger. A lifelong local, she was proud of her roots and cherished the community in which she grew up.

Peggy found great joy in helping others, both professionally and personally. Although she discovered her career later in life as a reservationist for US Airways, she dedicated herself fully and retired. Her true passions, however, were her beloved black-and-gold Pittsburgh Penguins, Pirates, and Steelers. Win or lose, she was always cheering for the home team.

Peggy was exceptional in countless ways, but perhaps most memorably through her baking. Legendary and most requested among friends and family were her famous pumpkin roll, Texas Sheet Cake, lady locks, and strudel, which was not at all German but no less delicious. She baked as she loved—with her whole heart, filling her home with warmth and sweetness.

If you asked Peggy, she would happily share her pride in her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren and tell you how truly blessed she felt. She cherished every moment with her family, whether at special gatherings or simply watching television together. She also enjoyed her “alone” time at the casino, where she seemed to have a special connection with Lady Luck—often returning home a winner, including during her final week.

Peggy was raised Presbyterian and attended McDonald Presbyterian Church for many years. Over time, her faith deepened; she didn’t just know about Jesus—she walked with Him and understood her identity as a daughter of the King. Her family and friends take comfort in knowing she has been welcomed into His kingdom and rewarded for her life of service and love.

Peggy exemplified a servant’s heart, extending generosity and kindness not only to her family and friends but also to strangers. She was known for her caring spirit, her willingness to offer help, and her loving words—sometimes more than necessary but always rooted in compassion. She passed on this legacy of service to her children and grandchildren, who continue to run toward those in need.

Peggy’s huge heart lives on in her surviving children: James (Debbie) Ringer, David (Jan) Ringer, Lisa (Michael) Jones, Dr. Michelle (Tariq Zehawi) DallaPiazza, and Kevin (Amber) DallaPiazza; her grandchildren: Stephen (Michelle) Ringer, Travis (Kaylee) Ringer, Michael Coyne, Matthew (Jen) Reno, Marc Reno, Jenna, Morgan, Robin, and David Ringer, Cassandra and Tessa Jones, Malaika and Safya Zehawi, and Owen and Liam DallaPiazza; her ten great-grandchildren; sisters Kathy McCombs and MaryAnn Barnes; many nieces, nephews, and cousins; her cherished “campground family” at MCA, where she spent many happy seasons turning friends into family; and those friends who became family over the years, including Darlene Diaz and her family, Beth and Augie Signorini, and Joy DallaPiazza. She will also be dearly missed by her four-legged, fuzzy, fat (but we aren’t judging) beloved cat, Ginger.

In addition to her parents, Peggy was preceded in death by her husband, Leonard Lee DallaPiazza (2022), three brothers, two sisters, and her cherished cat, Pepper.

All arrangements are private and entrusted to Thomas-Little Funeral Service, Inc., 314 W. Lincoln Ave., McDonald (724-926-2800).
