Margaret's obituary

Margaret Ellen Carter went to be with the lord on November 17, 2024. She was born August 29, 1945, to Ormand and Lillian (Dill) Perkins. Margaret and her brother, Phil grew up in Gardiner.

Margaret found joy in the little moments of life. Music was part of that joy. She was a member of a women's barber shop chorus. For years she performed in an annual fundraising variety show put on by Gardiner General Hospital. She and her niece would sing in the chorus. One year she dressed as Minnie Pearl and played in a jug band. She never missed a school concert when her niece and nephew were performing. Always sitting in the front row and waving wildly at them. She beamed with pride each time her son, David took the stage.

Family was sacred to Margaret. She loved family gatherings and was always the life of the party. Keeping everyone connected was so important to her. She was also the family historian and was fascinated by the stories and history of the Perkins clan.

Margaret had a strong faith and relationship with God. She was part of several church communities throughout her life. She loved singing the old hymns. But How Great Thou Art would make her weep every time.

She had a hat (or a wig) for every occasion. She even led a chapter of the Red Hat Society. She was happy to have her niece and daughter join her in the club as pink hatters (they were under 40). She helped them pick out their hats, a raspberry beret for Lynn and a pink cowgirl hat for Trisha.

Margaret was a wonderful cook. Her chop suey was legendary, and it won't be Christmas without her homemade chocolates and her sausage and potatoes.

She leaves her family and friends with so many cherished memories.

Margaret was predeceased by her parents. She is survived by her husband Larry Carter; her children David and his partner Mark; Larry Jr.; Patricia Ranks and her husband Tony; her brother Phillip and his partner Carol; her niece Lynn and her husband Douglas; her nephew Brian and his wife Amanda; and her dear friend Gail. She will also be missed by her four grandchildren, five great grandchildren and grand nieces and nephews.

A celebration of life will be held in the spring.
