Margaret's obituary

Margaret Frances Beard, 93, of Roanoke, went home to be with her Lord and with her beloved husband Monday, June 24, 2013 at Berkshire Health Care Center in Vinton following a brief illness. Margaret was born in Roanoke April 18, 1920, and lived in the area all of her life. She was employed by Blue Cross and Blue Shield for a number of years. Margaret had a green thumb and was an artist and craftsman. She enjoyed ceramics, painting, cake decorating, and gardening. Margaret was very active at Garden City Grace Brethren Church.
She was well-loved and loved her family very much. Margaret was known for her playful, quick wit and sense of humor.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Franklin P. and Mary E. Thompson Carper; husband, Saylor F. Beard; brother, Frank "Dike" Carper; and sisters, Elizabeth Beard and Helen Stewart.
Margaret is survived by her sons and daughters-in-law, Richard and Sandra Beard, of Roanoke, Kenneth and Charlotte Beard, of Myrtle Beach, S.C., and Charles Beard of Roanoke; five grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; sister, Mae Edwards, of Blackstone; a host of nieces, nephews; and many friends.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Friday, June 28, 2013, at Lotz Funeral Home, 1001 Franklin Road, Roanoke with the Reverend Witt officiating. Burial will be at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends Thursday, June 27, 2013, 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
The family suggests memorial contributions be made to the American Cancer Society , 2840 Electric Road, Suite 106, Roanoke, VA 24018.
