Maggie's obituary
Step aside, boring obituaries! Prepare yourself for a playful farewell to the one and only Margaret Alice Buchanan (LeBlanc), a.k.a. Maggie – the life of the party, the singing queen, the dancing diva, and the liberator of laughter. Born on May 30, 1952, in New Westminster, British Columbia, Maggie boogied her way through life, leaving a trail of joyful memories. Sadly, on December 14, 2023, at the age of 71, she took her final bow in Powell River, British Columbia. After an epic battle with cancer, Maggie's final days were spent with her loved ones at her side, and in typical "Mugwamp" fashion, she fought right till the end.
Maggie's laughter was the stuff of legends, capable of turning the dullest room into a roaring comedy club. Her infectious spirit was contagious, leaving smiles imprinted on the faces of all lucky enough to witness her uproarious charm. Maggie sure knew how to bust a move and belt a tune! Whenever her favorite songs filled the air, there was no stopping her. She sang like she was at the Grand Ole Opry, and boogied like nobody was watching, and made sure everyone joined in on the fun. She also loved an exciting dart game, or playing an intense game of cribbage, having a great conversation, or cheering on her favorite curling teams.
When she wasn't shaking her hips, or lost in a melody, Maggie found sheer bliss in the company of her loved ones, turning every gathering into its own private party. Maggie leaves behind a legacy of love and cherished memories with all. Maggie is survived by her beloved husband Wes, who stood by her side throughout their whole journey together, and never let go of her hand along the way. She was the biggest cheerleader to her children, Nikki (David) and Tony, and always the foremost supporter of whatever adventure they were on. Maggie's grandchildren Ewan, Cohen, and Arya never failed to bring a giggle to her heart, and were her greatest source of pride.
Maggie's zest for life extended to her siblings too, and their unbreakable bond. She shared a lifetime of laughs and mischief with her best friend and partner in crime, her sister, Sue (John). Additionally, her brother Don (Dianne) was also an ongoing source of fun shenanigans, typical of the LeBlanc family legacy. And let's not forget about all the nieces and nephews who lovingly referred to her as Auntie Maggie, and who were all very near and dear to her heart; Kathy, Scott, Cherie, Nadine, Dennyse, Debbie, Shawn, Darryl, and Tracey. An extra heartfelt shout out goes her niece Shelley, and Shelley's daughter Lindsay, for being the rocks that supported Maggie and her family in her final steps.
Maggie is now reunited in the rhythm and groove of the great beyond with her father Garnett, her mother Joy, brothers Ed, TJ (survived by his wife Marg), and her sister Gloria, who are undoubtedly thrilled to party with her once more. While she may have exited stage left, her presence lingers in the hearts of those who knew her, and her vivacious essence continues to inspire us all to embrace every moment with zeal. Let's keep her memory alive by spreading laughter and love in the world, and in times when our hearts ache from her absence, let us pause and remember the part she played in our lives.
Rest in peace, dear Maggie – we'll see you on the dancefloor of eternity.
