Margaret Ann Walter, lovingly known as Ann, passed away peacefully on January 28, 2025, surrounded by the family she held so dear. After a brave battle with Alzheimer’s disease, she is finally at peace.

Born on September 29, 1946, in Pecos, Texas, Ann was the beloved daughter of William G. Hestes and Gertrude J. Hestes. From an early age, her natural curiosity and love of learning set her on a path to a life of education and adventure. She graduated from East Texas State University (now Texas A&M Commerce) with a Bachelor of Science and went on to earn her Master’s in Liberal Arts from Southern Methodist University—all while beginning her teaching career in elementary education.

In 1973, Ann met Dave Walter, who instantly fell for her and later called her "the prettiest girl at the party by far." The two were married in 1974 and began a life together filled with love and plenty of adventures. As members of the Arlington Yacht Club, they raced sailboats and made countless memories on the water. But their greatest joys were their daughters, Sally and Lisa, who Ann raised with unending love, patience, and grace.

Ann’s passion for education defined much of her life. She dedicated 32 years to teaching Special Education in Grand Prairie and Arlington ISDs, serving as the lead Special Education teacher at Wimbish Elementary until her retirement in 2001. Ann’s colleagues admired her as a compassionate leader and advocate for her students, and she left an indelible mark on every child she taught.

In her retirement, Ann fully embraced her adventurous spirit. She loved being outdoors, whether it was camping under the stars, trekking across the U.S. in her RV, or enjoying group cruises to far-flung destinations. She was active in the Women's Club, traveled often with friends and family, and adored spending time with her grandchildren, who were the light of her life. Whether gathered around a campfire, sharing stories, or playing games, Ann made every moment with her family special.

Ann will be remembered for her kind heart and her steadfast love for her family and friends. She taught us all the importance of learning, the joy of exploration, and the beauty of a life well-lived.

She is preceded in death by her parents, her son-in-law, Terry Redmon and grandson, Grant Redmon.

She is survived by her husband of 50 years, Dave Walter, her daughters Sally Redmon and Lisa Rasley, son-in-law Stuart Rasley, her grandchildren Jackson Redmon and Mckinley Redmon, her brother Bob Hestes, sister-in-law Sandy Hestes, her beloved dog, Willie, and countless friends and former students whose lives she touched so deeply.

A memorial service will be held at Good Shepherd Catholic Community, 1000 Tinker Road in Colleyville, Texas on February 19, 2025 at 11am. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to the Alzheimer’s Association in honor of her memory (www.alz.org).

Ann’s light will continue to shine in the hearts of those who knew her. As we gather to celebrate her life, we remember the love she gave so freely and the adventures she embraced with open arms. Rest in peace, Ann—you will always be the prettiest girl at the party.
