Marcia (“Marcy”) Jane Pefley, 58, of San Rafael, California, passed away on Tuesday, June 15, 2021 in San Rafael from cancer. She was born June 5, 1963 in Phoenix, Arizona to Charles and Barbara (King) Pefley. Marcia graduated in 1981 from Merrillville High School in Merrillville, IN, where she spent her formative years. She became a registered nurse after receiving an AS degree in Nursing from Indiana University, and she later became a nurse practitioner after receiving a BS in Health Science from the University of California, Hayward, and an MS in Nursing at the University of San Francisco. Marcia went on to work in industrial nursing for several years and later finished her career in the Infection Control department at the VA hospital in San Francisco, CA.

Throughout her life Marcia was known to be especially vivacious, cheerful, and outgoing, which was reflected in her many interests that included the arts, music, world travel, skiing, and gardening. She particularly enjoyed skiing with friends in Lake Tahoe, CA, where she once owned property, and painting in her art studio. Her interest in traveling eventually led her to Venice, Italy, which became her favorite place in the world and a home away from home with her many return visits. Marcia also especially loved all things related to her family, and she was a major cat aficionado, particularly when it came to her adored Buster.

Marcia is survived by her parents, Barbara and Charles Pefley of McHenry IL; sons John and Brian Schindler of Livermore, CA; siblings: Marian Pefley of Sonoma, CA, Melinda (Mike) Colucci of West Dundee, IL, and Matthew (Rebecca) Pefley of McHenry, IL; and nieces and nephews: Morgan Pefley, Sam Colucci, Marc Colucci, and Jenna Pefley.

Memorial services will be scheduled in California and Illinois by the family at a later date. In lieu of flowers the family asks that you donate to your local animal shelter in Marcia's name or donate to the Go Fund Me page in Marcia's name.
