Marco's obituary
Marco was born in Etterbeek, Belgium, August 27th, 1951, to Jean Baptiste and Germaine Henry (nee Dirix). He survived his brother Patrick and is survived by his sister, Roxane. His family operated Le Char D’Or, a restaurant outside La Grand Place in Brussels, Belgium, inspiring him later to operate his own restaurant, with his wife Liza, in Nassau, Bahamas; the Brussels Bistro. As a youth he served in the Belgian military as a paratrooper in the Belgian Congo. His love of sailing led him to a career as first mate on a private yacht, on which he sailed the world until circumstances found him in Miami, FL, where he worked tirelessly as a driver until he was able to purchase his own cab company, Diamond Cab of Springfield, Mass, in the early 1980’s, later purchasing Hartford Yellow Cab in 1991. As president of Hartford Yellow Cab he was one of the first to offer complimentary rides to party-goers on New Year’s Eve, and was a pioneer in the adaption of alternative fuel sources in public transportation. Later a part-time resident of Nassau, Bahamas, he loved sailing and often raced sailboats in the local regatta.
