Marcy's obituary

Marcia “Marcy” Coefer Sparks, 62, a US Postal Service retiree and resident of Longbranch, WA, died unexpectedly on May 22, 2022 in Longbranch, WA.

Marcy is survived by her three sisters, Patricia Tatum, Barbara Biles, and Sandra Smith; her three children, Daniel Sparks, Ashley Sparks, and Kelsey Sparks; and her three grandchildren, Collier Sparks, Coen Sparks, and Isabella Sparks. She is predeceased by her father, George Coefer, and her mother, Margaret Coefer.

Marcy was born in Frankfurt, Germany on February 4, 1960 while her father, Sergeant Major George Coefer was serving there in the US Army. Marcy grew up in Madison, AL and Frankfurt, Germany. She attended Bob Jones High School in Madison and Frankfurt American High School in Frankfurt. She married Joseph Sparks on January 27, 1979, in Madison and they welcomed their son Daniel Sparks on January 28, 1981; daughter Ashley Sparks on September 2, 1987; and daughter Kelsey Sparks on April 26, 1989. In 1997, Marcy moved with her children to Federal Way, WA, then moved to Longbranch, WA in 2016 where she raised her granddaughter, Isabella. Marcy worked as a letter carrier at the US Postal Service beginning in 1981 until she retired in 2015. Marcy was proud to have beat breast cancer twice.

Marcy was a dedicated mother and grandmother first and foremost, and loved to spend time with her family. She enjoyed outdoor activities including gardening, kayaking, hiking, skiing, and was a big fan of Alabama Football. She was involved in her church and loved to spend time with her community in Longbranch. She loved to decorate for holidays and was known for her elaborate Halloween displays. She loved hard and was an advocate for others who needed help. Marcy will be deeply missed by her family, friends, community, and all who loved her.
