Marchelle's obituary
Marchelle “Kissy” Richards was born on February 15, 1961, in Detroit, Michigan, to the late Johnny and Betty Jean Richards.
She was lovingly known as “Kissy” by her family and friends, a nickname inspired by the popular Kissy doll of that time. When she was born, her older sister, Sharon, had hoped for a Kissy doll, but instead received something even more special: a real-life “Kissy” who would grow into a lifelong bond shared with all her siblings.
Marchelle was the fourth of seven children. She was preceded in death by her brother, Roderick. A woman of strong faith, Marchelle accepted Christ at an early age and remained devoted throughout her life. She was a faithful and active member of Mount Moriah Baptist Church for 31 years.
She graduated from Wayne County Community College and later attended Wayne State University.
Marchelle dedicated 31 years of service to AT&T as a Business Field Service Technician, where she eventually retired. She was one of the few African American women in her role at the time, helping to pave the way for other women to enter the field. She was also a proud and active member of the IBEW union.
Above all, Marchelle was a loving mother. She cherished her two sons, Antonio Reid and Tremaine Reid, who preceded her in death.
She leaves to cherish her memory five siblings, Sharon Richards-Truvillian; Christopher Richards Sr. (Debra); Marlisa Meah (Amru); Johnny Richards Jr.; and Robert Richards (Trina), along with a host of nieces, nephews, extended family, and dear friends.
Marchelle “Kissy” Richards peacefully departed this life on April 25. Her favorite scripture, Psalm 91, continues to bring comfort, reminding us of God’s protection and peace.
