Marc's obituary

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Marc Cahn, age 69, who tragically departed from this world on March 1st, 2024. Marc and his beloved wife, Lyne, were celebrating their anniversary in Kauai, Hawaii, where they had honeymooned 36 years ago. Marc's sudden and unexpected departure has left a void in the hearts of his family, friends, and the entire Boulder community, who will remember his caring nature, adventurous spirit, and disarming demeanor.

Born on April 29, 1954, in Newark, New Jersey to the late Werner and Shirley Cahn, Marc grew up in West Orange with his late sister, Janet Wright. Marc graduated from West Orange High and started college at UVM, then decided to transfer to CU Boulder after visiting his lifelong friend David Kaplan and falling in love with Colorado. After finishing college, Marc traveled across Australia and Southeast Asia with his late friend Beaver and decided to become a chiropractor. He moved to California to attend Palmer College of Chiropractic West, where he graduated valedictorian before returning to Boulder to open his practice. For more than 40 years, Marc was a cornerstone of the Boulder community, helping ease the pain of thousands of patients so they could regain full enjoyment of life.

Marc attended his first Grateful Dead show in the 1970s, and he never looked back. He met Lyne at a concert and after falling in love and getting married they followed the band across Europe. Together, they embarked on countless adventures, forging a deep and enduring bond that enriched the lives of all who knew them. Beyond the festival grounds and concert halls, Marc exemplified the spirit of the community he so cherished, and his enthusiasm was infectious to all who knew him. The music spoke to his soul, and he created countless memories in front of the stage, surrounded by the kindred spirits shaking their bones in unison. In recent years, Marc became an avid cyclist, riding thousands of miles through the endless beauty of the Rocky Mountains. Cycling wasn't just a hobby for Marc; it was a way of life that brought him immense happiness and fulfillment. At all stages of his journey, Marc formed deep friendships and captivated those he met––his family often joked that they couldn’t leave the house without running into someone who was excited to see him.

Of all he accomplished, Marc’s children were his greatest pride and joy––who he taught valuable lessons in generosity, selflessness, and compassion. He inspired his daughter, Jordan, to become a doctor, and she is completing her medical residency in Cambridge, Massachusetts this summer. His son, Tristan, is finishing his second year of law school at Lewis & Clark Law in Portland, Oregon. Marc could not stop bragging about them and loved them endlessly. Although Marc’s journey has come to an end, his spirit will continue to spread through those who knew him, like a ripple in still water.

He is survived by his wife Lyne, children Jordan and Tristan, niece and nephew Elyssa and Eric, and his extensive chosen family of friends from coast to coast and beyond.

Marc would be the first to say that “once in a while you get shown the light, in the strangest of places if you look at it right.” Instead of flowers, the Cahn family greatly appreciates donations to Doctors Without Borders, Community Cycles, or Cyclists 4 Community in honor of Marc, and asks that we all honor his life by practicing radical acceptance and being kind to those in need.

A celebration of life will take place later in the spring, details to be announced. As we mourn the loss of Marc, let us also celebrate the legacy of love, laughter, and compassion he leaves behind. May he rest in peace knowing that he was deeply loved and his imprint upon the earth will never be forgotten.
