Manuel's obituary
Manuel Diggs, originally from Baltimore, Maryland, passed away on August 16, 2025, at the age of 69 after a brief illness.
Manuel, affectionately called Amigo by his family, spent much of his adult life in Ohio and New Mexico before settling in Port Charlotte, Florida, where he had lived for more than five years. He enjoyed a successful career of more than 40 years in retail management before retiring to Florida, where he embraced a life centered on family, faith, and community service. Known for his sharp wit, love of debate, and joyful sense of humor, Manuel never met a stranger. He was personable, deeply kind, and always eager to connect with others.
His strong faith in God guided his life and inspired his deep commitment to church and community. A devoted member of Family Church of Port Charlotte, Manuel volunteered extensively with Jesus Loves You Ministries, supporting the homeless, encouraging and mentoring men in prison, and teaching Sunday school and Christian summer programs for children.
Equally important was his devotion to family. Manuel loved his family deeply and without reservation. He was a steady and reassuring presence in their lives—someone who could always be counted on for humor, and love, and a spirited discussion about anything.
A devoted film buff and fitness enthusiast, Manuel also enjoyed sports and traveling. One of his most memorable trips was to Paris, France, where he joined a family gathering several years ago.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Mary White-Davis and Bernard Diggs. He is survived by his sister, Rita (Roger) Stewart of Port Charlotte, FL; his aunts Marian (Milton) Harper of Broadnax, VA, Barbara Strong of Baltimore, MD, and Louise Thomas of Baltimore, MD; his uncle James Dorsey of Baltimore, MD; his nephew Beco (Eric) Lichtman of Paris, France; as well as many cousins, extended relatives, and friends who loved him dearly.
Manuel’s memory will be cherished by all who were touched by his compassion, humor, and faith. May his life and legacy continue to be a blessing.
