Mansa's obituary
On October 28, 1998, a beautiful, pure soul named Maleeq Mansa Q. Baraqa-Charles entered a chaotic and harsh world, but with him came the brightest light to ever shine upon this world. Along with that came an abundance of love, strength, determination, intelligence, perseverance, and joy. He was born to parents Lisa Vinson Charles and Jason Charles in New York City.
Mansa attended Smithfield Selma High School where he enrolled in the junior ROTC program and worked his way up the ranks to Junior Seaman. After graduating from high school in June of 2016, he was accepted to and enrolled at Peace University with a focus in Psychology. He later discovered his passion for computer science and transferred to Shaw University to pursue an associate's degree in computer science. He then finished out at Eastern Carolina University where he continued his studies in the field of computer science. Following the completion of school, he later moved on to begin a career at UPS. Throughout his life, Mansa loved nothing more than spending time with his family, focusing on his health, working out, spending his time doing what he loved i.e. cooking, movies, fine dining, and video games with his siblings. He was a bright and kind individual but anyone that knew Mansa, knew about his loving but blunt sense of humor. Mansa also dedicated time towards serving those in need whether it be elderly care, or time at the local Greenville food kitchen. He had an immense passion for cooking, starting his own copyright business, working out daily, and of course movies. He was lovingly known to his family as "New New or Man Man".
On December 29th, 2024, our most precious, godly blessing had his light dimmed and transferred that light into the heavenly stars. He was called home to be with Allah. بارك الله فيه أبدًا (May Allah forever bless him, welcome him with open arms, and be pleased by his steps!) Well done, New New!
Mansa is survived by his parents: Lisa Vinson Charles and Jason Charles, siblings: Shawnda, Khomali, Shadi, brother in law Delon, Jason Jr, Maverick, Harleigh, Jackson, Nephews: Khomali Jr, Dakota, Dominick, as well as his Grandmothers: Martha and Marie and a number of Aunts, Uncles, and cousins. His family and friends will miss him more than words can say. There are no words that can express just how much the sound of his voice and his presence will be missed. We will forever love and honor you. Sleep well and in peace, our bright and beautiful star.
The family requests that any contributions or deliveries be submitted to Sanders Funeral Home. There will be a brief visitation beginning at 11am and funeral service held 12pm-2pm, on January 7th, 2025, at Sanders Funeral Home.
