I met Leek and PS back in the nineties at a Dionne Warwick video shoot. The 40 Thevz were there with Coolio, who all participated. They had collaborated on the "What The World Needs Now Is Love" project. Dionne Warwick linked up with the Hip Hop Nation to bring some positivity in to the game at the time. I was working as a freelance urban publicist for Double XXposure who over saw the project. I was trying to learn the industry from the inside. We all hit it off pretty well immediately and PS joined me later that night at Kurupt from Dogg Pounds studio to work on some new music.
The next day we all linked up again and had a great time just vibing. We kept in touch after I went back to New York a few weeks later. I returned to L.A. that summer and linked up with the brothers again and this time I actually stayed with Leek and his family at their house in Gardena. It was around the time just after his mom and stepdad had passed on. They were going through a lot. I remember them being determined to keep their family together. They had younger brothers and sisters. And they made sure everyone was good.
Leek Ratt allowed me unlimited access to his studio. His little brother Bobby was a natural on the keyboard, even without any formal training. They all showed me love like they had known me all my life. They are incredible people. I remember one time, I had gone to the mall with a few of the 40 Thevz. Their cousin Spiderman, Cowboy, Big Worm, P.S. and Ratt. At one point I was in the GNC store looking at a bottle of multivitamins. I didn't have much money so I put them back on the shelf because they were a little more expensive than I could afford at the time.
Anyway, when we got back into the car, Leek Ratt handed me a bag. It was a GNC bag with the pills that he saw me looking at inside the store. He bought them without any words ever being exchanged. He just knew what was going on. Thats the type of person he was. They were all like that. Really special people. We had many good times. He taught me many things. I will never forget his spirit. I carry his memory with me, always. May God continue to bless his family and his loved ones. You will forever be Mona Parks finest. Until we meet again old friend ....
C ya when I get there,
Sonny Arson 🤜🏽🤛🏽
