Mel and I become good mates when we worked together in PNG. He was really helpful to a non nerd like me. Our officers on site were on opposite sides of Admin 1. Grabbing a coffee with Mel in his office and having a yarn was always a highlight. A nicer bloke you would ever expect to meet. A few times we had to fly to Port Moresby together and after work it was great getting together for a beer 🍺 or two at The Crown.  I got to meet his lovely wife Cheryl when he brought her up onsite to show her where he worked. He will be sorely missed. My sincere condolences to his family
